Deen Intensive

I was waiting for no reason - actually to recall back what I am supposed to buy before I'm off home, when Omar waved his hands from afar, seeking for a conversation. I just stood there, and pondered - was there anything that I promised him, but has been forgotten?

"...Salaamualaykum!"
"Alaikumussalam.... shaikh barak? Aina anta wein?"
"Bikhair... wa anta?"
"Bikhair aidan faqad..."
"So what brings you here?"
"Oh I just want to ask you, what are going to do for your summer?"
"Errmmm.... I'm going back, and there gonna be many things to do! (laughed), you know, my cousins relatives and all, juniors, a bit of studying I guess (laughed again)"
"I see. Hmmm... just to have a check with you. Ermm I'm still thinking about doing a research over here mmm... its gonna be good, but 8 weeks... huh... I don't know (shrugged)"
"8 weeks? Wow... you are sure a really busy lad"
"I am just worried I can't do... errr... read, erm... you know the kitab and all that..."
"Masya Allah brother, you mean thafaqquh or something like that?"
"Yeah yeah... and 'Abadi... you should do that as well..."
"Insya Allah... hmmm..."

Thafaqquh?
What say you?

Flashback - 2 years back, when I was meeting with my advisor, Pak Ibrahim up in the KLCCC, advised the same thing. Same goes with Kak Rashidah Bahaman. I wonder how are they right now.

News From UK

Hmmm... WMF is here again... Is he becoming a Dubliner? Now we're open for detectives out to investigate.

Pertaining this photo, the student elections is on going everywhere in UK. But I haven't updated myself about it much anyway. Maybe in some universities its already over like in Nottingham and Manchester.

Actually there was an uproar in recent student elections in UK, thanks to recount that lead to controversy about the transparency of the election commission. I can't help much if I am being judgmental (or prejudice, perhaps) since I am glued to my chair - but by all means, there must be something that isn't right taking place.

Anyhow, the future is bright for us.

"There will be a time, that even if we nominate a duck as a rep, that duck will win"

Oh yes, here is a piece of advice I got from YM:

No one attains the reality of zuhud (renunciation) until there are 3 characteristics in him:

- work without attachment
- speech without personal motives
- honor without seeking position

A Photo For Those Afar

Hmmm... he is returning back to Malaysia tomorrow, after a short stay in Dublin, Cork, Galway. Period.

Mak, Ayu, Aida, Arif, Ammar, Azam & Anas - perhaps this photo could alleviate much of your blues back home. 1 and half year is not too long, isn't it?

//Trio at Trinity College - From left: Izzuan, Yours truly, Ayah.

Upcomings:
IMAM Eire AGM
PPIMI Tamrin Nuqaba'
KUI All-Ireland Soccer Tournament
PPIM Cork Pre-Baitulmuslim (Marriage) Course

Oh yes, exam is merely one month away. So I won't update this blog much. Go to other sites & read something more beneficial, would you?

MAB's Reflection Latest Issue (March 05) is out. Download it here.

On Being Just Another Doctor

That's the phrase that I put it across my vision most of the time. And I deeply hope I could live with it.

Hmmm... I just do not want to be another plain doctor. I want to be more than that. But I have to realistic & idealistic at the same time - by knowing who you are and why you are here.

Actually if you do some homework you can easily conclude that all of us COULD do more. Or shall rephrase it to SHOULD to make it clear.

What's the point of being here, wasting up taxpayers' money and end up being just another doctor?

Such a waste! Such a waste! Such a waste!

Just recall what Allah has reminded us in Surah Al Asr, Surah At Tin. And Surah As Sajdah. And many more. Please.

I pray that all of us will not become one.

Waallahu'alam.

Spring Break 2005

Cuti-cuti Musim Bunga (hari 1)
-Forum Fitnah Akhir Zaman & Berita Dari Akhirat
-Pasar Siang - roti john, kek batik, scones (now tolerable), kasuwi, popia, nasi lemak, seri muka, & the list goes on.
-Dr Latiff's 'buah tangan'

UiTM Medical Faculty briefing
-Seems that the prospect of working in UiTM is quite bright thanks to recent seal of an agreement between UiTM and my sponsor. Dr Khalid Yusoff clearly explained what to do and to be done, and managed to spark some argument - to stay or not to stay. But the final verdict is just the plain clear - you have to go back & serve Malaysia no matter what the excuses are.

Dinner with PSA
-Turned out to be 3-hour-odd motivational lecture at dining table. Really woke me up somehow. Way much better than listening to disappointing same old stuff during the briefing weeks back.

Cuti-cuti Musim Bunga (hari 2)
-Kuiz Muslim Ceria
-Bengkel Memasak Roti, Sastera, serta Al-Quran & Tajwid. Lepas nih aku boleh masak roti lah. Dah reti nak ayak macam mana.
-Teater 'Mencari Jalan Pulang'

End The Occupation Demostration for Iraq & Palestine (Irish Anti War Movement)
-500-750 were there (RTE). Actually there were more - at least 3000. Can't beat those Londoners - 2 million!
-We proudly paraded with Chechens placards on air. Glad that the masses started to know that there's whole lot of Chechens being silently put to death.

FOSIS Ireland - End The Occupation Conference
-New insights about Takbai, Chechnya & Kashmir. I could even see tears trickling down during when Takbai footage was shown. All in all, it was marvellous! Congrats & jazakallah to those who were involved, directly or indirectly. It is hoped that we reached the objective - educate, motivate & activate.
-The speakers were excellent!
-The most important : the workshop. Masya Allah those guys (Richard Boyd Barrett, Imam Achmad Cassiem, Massoud Shadjareh, Danny Morrison) were moving!
-Now let's boycott Israel with our utmost! Even Dr Ilan Pappe himself plus Rabbi Weiss blatantly support all these boycotts, let alone our beloved Muslim scholars...

Let's get the boycott up!

Irish Anti War
Innovative Minds - Boycott Israel Campaign
Boycott Leaflets

Hmmm... kuning daffodil mula mewarnai. Bisa ke Bray hari ini...

Account of London & Manchester visit

London
Brand Essence & Shared Values. Itu lah things to bring home from briefing di London. Kali ini di Porchester Hall. Agak posh seperti namanya. Makan pun sedap. Orang Nahar yang hidangkan...

"Laaaa... delay lagi... Ryan Air ni satu la..."
"Ha ha... tahun lepas pun macam nih..."

Kami tiba lambat - Ryan Air ada delay. To my amazement, it was actually the same flight as last year's. A bit disappointed, but nak buat macam mana, dah ditakdirkan Allah lambat.

Buat grand entrance! - masuk lambat, duduk row paling depan sekali. Elok sangat lah tu.

Hmmm... it is good to see that our sponsor is performing really well (meaning that they're expecting the same from us!). Currently they're embarking the business in Egypt and Sudan. The smell of the money (oil to be exact) is so strong to the extent that if we invest one, we will get ten in return! Isn't that great?

Then, semasa makan tengahhari, I got to meet seniors namely Nabil, Haidar, Faidz, Nasri, and yes, newbies too. Amin from Cork dapat jumpa juga. Hmmm... it seems that loads of newbies tahun ini. Meriah. The more the merrier. Apa impaknya pada mereka? Menurut Abang Hamizan - "Mereka nanti tak kenal seniors, orang tua as they duduk sama-sama...".

Well, maybe it is just a myth. Really? Don't ask for the answer, please.

London II
Alhamdulillah Munzir is still alive, and currently reading Civil Engineering at Imperial College. Now I can say that I have a dedicated hostel in London. Phew! travelling around London has never been so easy! Jazakallahukhairan!

Rasa guilty pula sebab pakai mouse tuan punya bilik...

IMAM Second Medical Symposium - Muslims & Medicine in a Globalised World. Itulah agenda kami kali ini. 2 hari lamanya.

Aiseh, sakit. Mereka tiba agak lambat sedikit. At least they made it in one piece.

The symposium went on. Then the DPM arrived and delivered an inspiring speech before he left. He sure have a tight schedule on his visit to UK. So many things to be done and yet so little time are given. Maybe.

Antara lecture yang cukup mendapat tempat di hati adalah mengenai Abul Qassim Az-Zahrawi - one of the greatest of all time (also known as Abulqasis) by Ibrahim Sheikh. He unfolded the life story of said Muslim surgeon and drew a picture of his achievements, or route to me follow on for that matter. Mabruk!

Hmmmm...

I was strucked by something yesterday.
I better change now before it is too late.

Oh yes, let's go to Islam Basics (http://www.islambasics.com), shall we?

Current recommended website:
Bahan Tarbiyyah
Islam Basics
Masud.co.uk
Alibris
Abebooks

...

About the IAW, there's an Arabic saying : "You cannot give what you do not have".

Hmmm... I heard the Terrorism vs Islamophobia talk got a great response. Too bad I couldn't be there.

Oh yes, somebody pushed the buzzer telling that an Islamophobe was around on Monday. Oh well, oh well...

Of Liver Disease & IAW 2005

Panadol overdose leads to liver failure... dan mati.

IAW. Islam Awareness Week. Minggu Kesedaran Islam (betul ke dalam BM?) Hmmm... nak sedarkan diri sendiri & orang tentang Islam.

Wallahu'alam.

The Real New Year / Perihal Hari Valentine

Selamat Tahun Baru...

Marilah baca artikel-artikel di Islam Online. Tambahkan sedikit ilmu pengetahuan. Muharram Safar Rabi'ul Awal Rabi'ul Thani Jumada Awal Jumada Ukhra Rejab Syaaban Ramadan Syawal Zulqaedah Zulhijjah...

Terima kasih penasyid sekalian (Yusuf Islam, Raihan, Hijjaz etc), kerana telah membantu kita mengingati bulan-bulan Islam. Hai, nak ingat pun kena menyanyi?

Hmmm maghrib sekejap lagi. New Year! Okay cau!

..

Valentine's Day pun semakin hampir. Apalah nak jadi? 2 tahun sudah, aku pernah menyaksikan sendiri gelagat pemuda-pemudi bersorakan dek Valentine's Day.

Wah! Ramainya. Perasaan sangka baik masih kuat - mungkin ada bacaan Tahlil beramai-ramai kot sempena Valentine's Day. Wah! Brothers & sisters beramai pulak tu. Wah! Sungguh indah ukhuwwah... Tentu mendapat barakah!

Yeah, right! You're bloody right! Ukhuwwah kebendenye. Masing-masing menghayati keindahan tanpa disedari mereka dihujani dengan dosa. Semakin tua waktu malam, zikir-zikir neraka (ayat jiwang) semakin rancak. I love you, you love I. Awak sayang saya tak? Cinta kita tetap teguh honey. Apa hadiah utk Valentine's Day? I sanggup menempuh lautan api (baca: lautan api neraka) demi you. Dan banyak lagi zikir-zikir yang lain...

Itu lah dia. Valentine's Day ini pembunuh kasih ibu. Penyelar kasih bapa.

Wallahu'alam.

The People Of The Boxes

By Dawud Wharnsby Ali:

There were once some people who all saw their lives like empty boxes

They looked around the world collecting up the things they liked

They filled their lives in boxes with the goodies that they gathered

And they all felt in control, content and they all felt all right

They climbed inside their boxes, they settled with their trinkets

They neither looked nor learnt much more and closed their lids up tight

Once they fastened up their boxes they smiled there inside

And they all thought in their darkness that the world was clear and bright

But the world is not a box,

There's no lid, no doors, no cardboard flaps or locks.

And everything in nature from the clouds to the rocks

Is a piece of the puzzle of the purpose of man;

It's the piece of the peace of Islam

Along came a wandering wise man whispering such words of truth,

Who stumbled on these boxes so separate side by side

He knocked upon the first one saying,

"Please come out and feel the day"

An answer came from deep within,

"You're not of us please go away"

He approached the second box and tapped thrice on the lid, saying,

"Peace to you inside, shall I show you a new way??

Someone peaked out from a crack and said,

"You may just have a point, but it's so comfy in my box, in my box here I will stay."

But the world is not a box,

There's no lid, no doors, no cardboard flaps or locks.

And everything in nature from the clouds to the rocks

Is a piece of the puzzle of the purpose of man;

It's the piece of the peace of Islam

He stood before the final box; a hiding face peaked out to him,

And much to his surprise he said,

"I recognize those eyes"

"I see you and you see me, why not come out and be free?

Faith and flowers wilt and die if they are hidden from the sky."

Cuz the world is not a box,

There's no lid, no doors, no cardboard flaps or locks.

And everything in nature from the clouds to the rocks

Is a piece of the puzzle of the purpose of man;

Hmm...

Are we still trapped in?

Are we still 'branding' people happily like there is no other day?

How could we guide the others then?

Waallahu'alam
